Our Daycare Center
In 2007, we had a dream to build a day care center, and with the collaboration of other non-profits from over 6 European countries, our dream was realized.
‘Winay-Kusiy’, which in Quechua translates to ‘Growing Together Happy’ houses 183 children to date, a far cry from our overcrowded, previous two-room facility.
We support this Day Care Center daily with a supply powdered milk as many of the parents cannot afford baby formula. These parents often boil herbal tea (that lack any nutritional value) to feed their children at night and over the weekend. Every Monday morning, our Day Care Staff weigh-in all the infants, in order to get a better grasp of how much weight they have lost over the weekend.
We provide full scholarships for children whose parents cannot afford to pay even the minimal daycare expenses. We do not however provide the scholarships completely without any cost to the parents. From our years of experience in this community, we have learned that parents would not take the level of involvement or ownership required, nor would their level of appreciation and communal reciprocation be as high.
